Studio Policies

General Student & Parent Expectations

  • Students are expected to practice at least 5 days per week for a sufficient amount of time to be prepared for their lessons. The student should carefully practice each assignment listed on their practice sheet. This ensures that the lessons are well worth your time and money. The violin is a highly complex instrument to learn, and practice is absolutely vital to see significant progress. The teacher reserves the right to terminate lessons with students who consistently show up unprepared for lessons.

  • Parents of younger students should assist in helping their child form a daily practice routine, helping remind them to practice as needed.

  • Parents of students age 4-5 are required to be actively involved in helping their child progress. They must attend and watch their child’s private lessons and practice with their child at home as per the teacher’s instructions. Some students this age do better waiting a few years until they have a longer attention span. The trial lesson is a great time for the teacher to asses readiness to begin lessons.

  • Students should be on time, arriving a few minutes before their lesson time. Lessons are often scheduled back-to-back, so starting on time ensures you are getting your full lesson time. Students may let themselves in when they get to the home of the teacher and wait in the hall until the student before them leaves.

Lesson Conflicts

  • If you must miss a lesson for any reason, it is not guaranteed that you will get a make-up lesson. However, if you give at least 8 hours notice of your child’s absence, you will be added to a wait list for a make-up lesson. The teacher will contact parents on the wait list whenever another student cancels, and whoever responds first can bring their child for a make-up lesson at that time. The wait list will be cleared when a new semester starts. Alternatively, if you give notice of the absence early enough in the week, the teacher can attempt to have another student trade lesson times with your child. Please understand that your tuition reserves an exclusive weekly time slot for your child, and the teacher cannot easily reschedule missed lessons due to the large amount of students in the studio.

  • If you miss a lesson without informing the teacher of your absence at least 6 hours prior to the lesson, a make-up lesson will not be provided.

  • If the teacher must cancel, the lesson will be either made up or refunded.

  • If there are dangerous weather conditions, a video call lesson or a make-up lesson will be provided.

  • Please do not come to lessons while sick. If you are feeling well enough, you can choose to do a video call lesson.

Tuition

  • 30 minute lesson (beginner): $40/lesson

  • 45 minute lesson (intermediate): $55/lesson

  • 60 minute lesson (advanced): $65/lesson

  • Group class: $20/class

Nolensville Violin Academy offers competitive rates for the Williamson County area. Beginners start with a 30-minute lesson, and they will increase their lesson times as they advance as directed by the teacher. Lessons occur weekly with occasional weeks off for holidays and school breaks (as per the Williamson County Schools calendar).

Payment Options

Payment terms are divided into fall (August-December), spring (January-May), and summer (June-July). Tuition is determined by the amount of lessons and group classes scheduled for each term, plus the recital fee. It can either be payed in full at the beginning of each term or divided into monthly installments. Monthly payments are due by the 7th of the month. Checks and cash are accepted forms of payment. Please make checks payable to Nolensville Violin Academy. You can also pay via Venmo, but there is a small added fee of 1.9% per payment.

Instruments & Materials

Students are expected to rent/purchase their own instruments. The Violin Shop and Williams Fine Violins are recommended, and the teacher can provide further guidance as needed. Please note that it is ill-advised to buy cheap mass-produced instruments off the internet from sellers like Amazon. These will not stay in tune well or produce a good tone. If you would like to buy online, Shar Music is a reputable option. Violins come in different sizes depending on the arm length of the student, so allow either the instructor or the shop you visit to measure your child. Students are also expected to buy any other materials required by the teacher such as music books.

Photos and Videos

Nolensville Violin Academy reserves the right to take pictures and videos of students for promotional and instructional purposes. If this is an issue, please contact the instructor and your child will not be photographed or videoed.
